A few hundred years ago, Myria the Witch utilized an old cauldron and the magic of the forest around her in an attempt for companionship.
This resulted in the Sylvakits, a thriving magical species of beings that could very well be considered living gardens.
As their species grew, so did Myria's coven, and the goals of all within the Evergarden grew and grew into a thriving city of gardens, tree homes, and modern technology.
Sylvakit Anatomy
Sylvakits are a simple but versatile species, mimicking forest creatures first and foremost. Anything that calls its offspring “kits” are viable to mimic. A sylvakit may mimic different ears and tails and mix-match based on their make-up - either from their parents (if from a Blooming Season) or how they were mixed in a cauldron (if magically made).
The only animals that Sylvakit ears and tails mimic include:
- Foxes
- Rabbits
- Weasels
- Ferrets
- Badgers
- Skunks
- Squirrels
- Raccoons
- Wolverines
- Beavers
- Mink
The most distinguishable thing between Sylvakits and the animals they look similar to is the fact they always have leaves growing from them. The leaf type varies depending on their origin, but they are constantly adorned with leaves. Their leaves can grow in a variety of ways, but they always grow from around the base of their ears and atop the base of their tails.
Tree Form
Because they are made from the magic of the forest and the witch Myria, Sylvakits themselves are magical beings. They can transform between their bipedal, animal-like selves into something more humanoid. Sylvakits call their humanoid forms their “tree” forms, because long ago Myria likened it to shooting up like a tree in comparison to their tiny bipedal forms. The name stuck, and so Beryl made sure to use the terminology with all the younger generations of Sylvakits they teach.
They swap between for many reasons - preference and convenience being the most common. Other reasons may include protecting others, Blooming Season, and traveling to other areas of the world. It comes down to the individual!
Life Cycle
While Sylvakits do not age, they do still experience a very brief childhood before reaching maturity. Because of how quickly they grow, Sylvakits are only considered children for two years. Past this point, they are considered adults, taught about society and how their garden works, and also gain the ability to swap between forms.
While they can become ill, have disabilities, and die from outside means, Sylvakits are not known to age and have not experienced a natural death.
Sylvakits can also choose to have their own offspring, though family units may vary from sylvakit to sylvakit. However, it is only possible to have their own offspring two times a year - during Blooming Season.
Blooming Season happens in April and November - once in Spring, once in Fall. Blooming Season activities may only occur in Tree Form.
